"Brooklyn Bossa" is an idea I was working on that I composed & recorded starting with a layered Bossa Nova beat, an upright bass part, a unison then harmonic background vocalese pad arrangement, grand piano, percussion, and a rhythm guitar part (all played on keys), but what I really needed was a REAL Brasilian guitarist! When I met the amazing Ricardo Barros in Sao Paulo at a private jam session, I knew we had to connect and there was definitely musical magic! He recorded some takes for my track and I did a piano arrangement to his song (his compositions are INSANE, btw). This is a special edition version that was created for Soul In The Horn's 10th anniversary, 3LP compilation. B-side "T.G.I.F. (Thank God It's Funky)" is by far the funkiest track I've ever created, to date! I just got hit with inspiration, all of a sudden, and I wasn't listening to anything prior to this. Of course, funk influences flavored this from legends like James Brown, George Duke, and some Jimmy Smith for the organ grinding I did. I can't think of a better start of Summer/BBQ weekend/Soul Train line, old school vibe than "Thank God It's Funky!"... a twist on the day it was released as everyone gets ready for the weekend to unwind from the work week and let loose!
